There is no other normal way of entering Suna than through a slit in one of the canyon's cliffsides. The edges have been carved by residents to serve as watchposts.

There are several fortified outposts scattered across the land in strategic points. They are there mostly for outlook and scouting, but also to help organize timely defense against potential attacks on Sunagakure from other villages.

As far as the eye can see, all dunes of sand, each identical to the others. If you're not an experienced tracker, you might have trouble finding your way. Staying on the marked routes is advised.
