Canon Character's Full Name:[/u]
Uchiha Madara. [Alias: Tobi.]
Question #1: How do you see the character and what do you think of it?[/b]
To start with the first thing that struck me about the character, Madara sure is jovial for the amount of history he has behind him. I think that he's quite the opposite of childish or insane, though, and also that this is not some self-imposed ward to keep his mind from snapping under the pressure of so many things. I merely believe that he's a great actor. He would have to be, to play a flawless role as Tobi, when that's the literal opposite of his real self. Well, the point I make is that, with Madara being as skilled in acting as that, the readers can have no idea at this point about how much of what he said was true and how much of it was a lie. Of course, I think that he was honest with Sasuke, but only to a point. The historical foundation of his story and whatever else he said that involves other people's actions is most likely true. The problem comes with the part involving Madara himself. I think he has yet to disclose his entire role in the story. I'm sure that he's done a lot more than what he says, and that he's probably to blame for many things he hasn't spoken of.
He even seems to be the Mizukage, now. Kisame called him that. Makes one really wonder what's with the stories of the Academy graduation exam in Kiri becoming harsher when Zabuza was young, and other similar details. I think Madara is a character that pulls a lot of converging strings, so I wouldn't be surprised if we find out he caused a lot more things to swing by than is apparent. I'm reluctant to call him the ultimate villain of Naruto yet, but that's what he seems to be at the moment. Many details seem to point that everything in there leads back to him somehow. Or at least that it might. Although I don't doubt that his plans haven't been disclosed in their final form yet, so if I were to play him for now, I would continue to keep his goals shrouded in mystery. Madara is a mastermind. Itachi seemed to think that too, since he didn't want Sasuke to meet Madara; he probably realized how easy it would be for the latter to manipulate his brother. I'm sure that whatever he's after, claiming the tailed demons is only one small step of things.
As far as personality goes, I've tried to identify some of Madara's traits that might be accurate even despite the act he puts on. For one thing, he seems to be determined to win his fights no matter the costs. After all, he is the man who accepted the offer of his own brother's eyes (or took them by himself) in order to increase his power and attain victory. Back then, at least in his story, Madara didn't seem like a person who would only look after himself, but that might as well be true, and he could have only been depicting himself as the hero of the Uchiha. From Itachi's story, on the contrary, Madara seems to be the regular villain, willing to do anything and use anyone while pursuing his own selfish goals. At the moment, any of these options could be the real Madara. But from both it is clear that the character has the corresponding mentality of someone who grew up, in times of war, as one of the strongest. He showed no understanding or compassion towards Sasuke when he was telling him the truth (whether he was lying or not). If Sasuke wasn't going to listen, Madara only tied him up and proceeded. That seems to me like the attitude of someone practical and determined to see his goals through. His storytelling wasn't very dramatic, either. He seemed more like he was exposing facts. That may or may not have helped his credibility.
Overall, Madara is a very difficult character to describe with exact words, since he seems to be everywhere, and to have a different face for everyone. I'm surprised that he doesn't seem to lack a sense of humor, or to not still be able to enjoy life after dragging himself around for all those years. I think Madara wasn't the Uchiha leader in the past only for being the strongest, but also due to the fact that he has charisma. He knows how to work with people. Again, the example with Sasuke, from above, fits, since Madara knew the right way to speak to him. And as Tobi, like Kisame notes, he was able to brighten the atmosphere of even an organization like Akatsuki. From his story he even seemed able to compromise and give in to the will of his people. I believe that whether he was truly looking out for them or not, that was still a sign of people skills from his part. He was either really willing to compromise with them, or he realized that opposing them wouldn't turn out well. The only way to dispel the ambiguity of the character would be to reunite all of the pieces in the story, and since that's not going to happen soon, I think this is as far as I can analyze Madara with what I have right now.
Question #2: Why do you think you can play this character properly?
First , I feel that this is the right place to mention that I'm the person Madara is reserved for at the moment. I was told to include this somewhere in my application, and so I'm doing it.
Now, as I said above, Madara is a very confusing character, who cannot be interpreted beyond some surface observations at the time being. So I think my best bet for playing him with what I have now would be to maintain this mysterious nature of his through my role-playing. I hope I'm not expected to choose or invent Madara's reality on my own, because I don't intend to do that. On the other hand, if a 'proper' way of playing him is considered attempting to be just as vague as the manga has been thus far, then I'm going to try my best at that, so that's my argument.
Requirement: Copy-paste a fragment of a role-play post you made somewhere or make a new one. It doesn't matter which characters it features. We just want to look at your style.
I'm too lazy to write a Madara sample when it doesn't seem to be required. So I'm only offering a sample from a past Naruto role-play, in which I portrayed a made-up character. It was via instant messaging, if anyone wants to know.

Broken toys go with the trash, don't they?
If not for the cold wall her back was pressed to, she wouldn't even be standing now. Water was trickling down on it, but it didn't matter anymore. It took the ultimate effort of willpower to even keep her legs from shaking in her current position. Maybe she was going to slip along that vertical surface, all the way to the floor. Following the water, every inch she lost from her height would bring her a bit more comfort. A death so slow in coming that she would think she was only falling asleep. Like he had just said. Heh, as if. She knew him too well to buy into such a claim.
"Don't…"
A sudden coughing fit she couldn't hope to prevent or halt robbed her of that shred of heroism. How ironic. It was the only one she had ever meant to have, too. She couldn't help but smirk when she could breathe again, even if her throat felt clogged and her chest hurt on the inside as though her ribcage were about to shatter. The only relief she had through this was that her nails provided a distraction; they were digging into something soft enough to be scratched into, carved. The flesh of her own palm, she realized. Of course, it was a natural reaction, for some: fight pain with pain. Or perhaps… fight fear with pain, was it? So she needed to resort to that, after all.
Coward. Miyako. Synonyms. Words with the same meaning.
The image in front of her eyes cleared for a second, before she needed to blink and tears rimmed their lids again. She got a last glimpse of his face, at least; clean, unlike hers. Throwing dirt in her eyes – what a cheap trick. Who would ever think a shinobi was going to come up with something like that? She'd call it unworthy, but in truth she was only annoyed she hadn't thought of it first. The scales of chance would be weighing in her favor now, if she had. Whatever, now she ought to at least continue her idea… if she could.
"Don't give me that crap," she said.
That was all. You'd think she would struggle for more than such a simple sentence. It was amazing how even small things like that were worth the effort, for someone who was dying. Or how plain of a person she really was, to not have something better to waste her dying breath on. After all, he had been clear enough about the substance injected into her moments earlier. She spat in his general direction, although she knew she would miss him. Missing him. That idea in itself, when taken out of context, could be interpreted in ways she didn't want to admit.
"Whatever, indeed," she echoed her own thought from just before.
