I've always wanted to be an author, so I'm going to bore you with the first bit of my story. Criticism is welcome, and asked for. But I am purposely not putting in many details of who she is or what she looks like or where they are. It’s just the first chapter, the rest I’m thinking will be in the first person. I'm at school so don't expect me to come up with anything fantastic.

The young lady sighed. This looked like...She looked around. Tied to a post with the unmistakable air of a spell around it, check. Of course, she had known that when the stupid things had jumped at her. Strange dark portal opening up, check. Guys...rather nice looking guys, she had to admit, coming out of it, check. "I can’t believe I didn’t see this coming," she grumbled. Grandfather KNEW something like this would happen. Something like this ALWAYS happened.
The guys finished exiting their portal and it neatly disappeared. "Well, well, well. What have we here? A mouse caught in our trap, eh Leo?" Well that made sense. Leo had wild blonde hair and orange eyes that had already put her in mind of a lion. Leo did not deign to answer his companion, who had deep blue eyes that were almost black and hair that reminded her strongly of the time she had eaten cheetos and grape soda at an amusement park and then thrown up. He also looked to be enjoying her helpless state far too much for her to be quite comfortable.
"I suggest you gentlemen let me go," she said airily, "Quickly. I do have people who will be looking for me." "Looking?" the black-eyed one laughed, "I’m afraid they'll just think you've run off as usual my lady. No one will start looking for you until it's far too late." He bowed mockingly. Too late. That didn't sound pleasant. Drat. Perhaps she shouldn’t have been running quite so hard.
She changed the subject and continued looking for an escape route. Not much in that way, the bonds tightened every time she tried to move. Too many escape attempts and she’d choke herself. “I’ve been running away from being called ‘my lady’, and I’ll thank you not to use it.” Black-eyes touched her face and she fought the urge to bite him. “You’re not in a position to be making demands my lady. I do regret, however, depriving the world of your beauty.” She wanted to spit. Moron.
Apparently his partner felt the same. “Stop playing with the prey Falcon, or you’ll end up getting burned. This one’s obviously smarter than you are.” “Then that means she’s leagues out of your range Leo, so don’t chastise me. Fine, we’ll get on with it.” Uh-oh. But on the bright side, they didn’t like each other. Perhaps she could use this to her advantage.
They stood together, chanting some sort of spell, a big one with a very dark aura. She could feel the energy gathering around them to be released at her, and another portal came into view. This one was blue…And it…Was that…
“Yes my lady,” said Falcon with a flourish, “That would be your soulgate. I’m afraid we must take something from you. Something rather precious.” “My power?” she said, suddenly laughing, “You’re welcome to it, if you can get it.” “Why would we have trouble with that?” Falcon smirked again. Leo looked warily at the portal. “Falcon, I sense trouble.” “Listen to your friend Falcon,” the girl smiled, “You’re soon to realize your mistake.”
Falcon looked from the girl he had tied up to his companion. The girl simply gave him a small smile, whilst his friend looked on with impatience and disapproval. He smirked at her. “Whatever tricks you may have been able to put up are cancelled, my lady, by the bonds that hold you. That much we know for sure. I’m afraid you’re quite without anything to fall back on.” She continued smiling, ignoring the two guys and looking intently at the door they had opened.
Falcon was visibly annoyed and Leo looked bored. They looked at each other, nodded, and advanced toward the portal. “Once your power is gone, our mistress will have no use for you,” Falcon said triumphantly as he got within a foot of it. She laughed out loud this time, and it rang clear and light in a place as dismal as this, but other wise said nothing other than, “Now.”
The blast of flame from the portal drove the two boys back, Falcon getting singed and Leo’s reflexes carrying him out of harm’s way in time. Now Falcon didn’t look anything close to confidant, and Leo was staring at her with something that looked quite like…admiration?
She only registered this on the outside of her senses. Her attention was on the portal. A voice came booming from it, a voice that reminded one of echoes that instead of getting fainter bounced back louder and more important than they had ever sounded originally. It was a voice you listened to and obeyed, very old and wise and strong, capable of anything. A voice of power.
This was slightly diminished by the words that the voice formed. “I’m getting too old for this young lady!” The girl’s laugh rang again, and she responded, “Oh you great lizard, you need the exercise!” “Astral transportation, especially through soul ties take it out of anyone I’ll have you know! And me being at my age-“ “You don’t age any more than I do you lazy old coot, and that’s fact!”
The voice seemed to shake itself, and draw into a tone that was very much that of a teacher’s. “You, little princess, still must show respect for your elders, aging or old aging, and I’ve still seen millennia that you have not. Your grandfather entrusted your care to me because-“ “We were linked anyway,” she sighed, “And Grandfather didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. You made quite sure of that.”
Falcon was turning quite an interesting shade of purple, from rage and embarrassment. He exploded, “Who the hell are you talking to?! You’re captured you nitwit! Who’s that?! Great…” he gulped, “Lizard…” “That’s right,” the young lady said pleasantly, as scales began to show through the portal. The bonds dropped off her and she stepped away from the pole, rubbing her wrists. “A dragon. I suggest you start running.”
