Our dear player, you have reached the section that details what you are and are not allowed to do while designing your character. Whether we're talking about a canon character you would like to play or an original one you wish to create, you will need to follow some rules. Don't worry, it's nothing drastic... just common sense.
Also...
IMPORTANT NOTICE: No matter if it is an OC or a canon, this applies. If your character is or becomes a Kage, you automatically agree to receiving moderator powers over the respective section of their village. That's not just cool abilities, people. That's RESPONSIBILITY and DUTIES, and we expect you to perform them properly. So think twice before you pick them, but if you do... we're here to help, we promise that. (Example: Gaara has to mod over everything in Suna.)
NOTE: To raise interest, you receive 100 karma points from the admins if you choose to play a canon character. Yes, it's a bribe. Lol.
So, here are the guidelines.
--------------------------------
CANON CHARACTERS
--------------------------------
So, you want to play one of the already consecrated Naruto trademark characters. That's perfectly fine with us, but...
Firstly... please do not pick a character you know you will be unable to portray correctly. Inadequate behavior of a canon character (such as huggy Sasuke or Kakashi always arriving on time) will not be accepted and you may even be removed from the command of said character.
The second thing you must keep in mind is that other people may want that character, too. In fact, they may have wanted it before you did. Therefore, check the sticky list at the top of the Canon Character Application board on the forum and see if the character you want is available.
You are allowed to role-play characters who have died in the canon material if it doesn't ruin anything crucial. We're not (completely) insensitive and know they have dedicated fans, too. You may have any canon character that was alive in the beginning of the Naruto Shippuuden manga and anime (note, not normal Naruto, but Shippuuden, keep that in mind).
But here's the catch. Added to the last rule is the fact that you cannot shift time periods a dead character was active in. That would kill a lot of things. For example, Sasori cannot RP with Sasuke and talk about how Deidara died trying to kill Sasuke, because Sasori died before that.
Note: Under NO circumstances are you allowed to RP that the character was somehow revived and now roams the land again.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS
-----------------------------------
So you want to insert your OC into the Narutoverse. That's also perfectly fine by us. Here is what you must do...
First off, all OCs that want to be shinobi (because you can be normal, non-ninja humans, if you like) will have their starting rank determined by the admins. Age plays a very important part in this. We will be organizing exams regularly to advance ranks, but we are the ones who choose when they take place. No worries, you'll be notified by your sensei (and for higher ranks your Kage), because they are the ones who choose if you're ready or not. In the absence of these, the NPC account will send the notices.
You can't choose which village you're from, either. That's because we'd probably only get members in Konoha and Suna. There is a form that will help us decide where to place you. It requires you to answer some questions about your character and you will see instructions on where to fill it in in the OC application guidelines.
Your OC cannot have abilities restricted to certain canon characters, such as Gaara's control of the sand or the Uchiha clan's Sharingan. On short, if the canon material says or implies the canon characters are the only ones who still have those abilities, then that's it.
Your OC cannot have an ability developed by a certain canon character unless the training sequence with the specific developer has been RPed. For example, your character can't have Chidori (Raikiri) unless Kakashi or Sasuke taught it to them in a previous thread.
Your OC cannot be related to any canon character who clearly states it has no relatives other than those already presented in the manga/anime. Examples are Naruto, Sasuke, the Sand Siblings. However, you can be related to characters that may have other relatives, like Neji and Hinata, Shino, and so on. For that, however, you must talk to the owner of said canon character and have them agree BEFORE you develop your OC and say who it is.
Your OC can have a new kekkei genkai (bloodline limit) of your own development, but it requires separate approval from that of the character application. That means you will have to fill in another application form, specifically for the kekkei genkai, (also found in the Original Character Application board) and you are NOT allowed to RP until it has been approved. There are guidelines referring to what an acceptable kekkei genkai should be like in the application form.
Your OC may not have a demon, because there are only nine of those in total, and they've all been featured or mentioned in the canon material. That means you can't have any without breaching canon, which we will not allow.
