The Hikure Clan started out over a hundred years ago as a "tribe" of merchants that went by the title "Hikure." Mercinaries were originally hired as guards, but with the ever presence of ninja in the world, and the well success of "Hikure," ninja were then hired as "permanent" guards for the "tribe" of merchants.
Over the evolution of time, the ninja had eventually mated amoungst the "tribe," and as the world neared the end of the plaguing war, the Hikure Clan had been born by the adoption of the title from the original "tribe." Many were reluctant in changing their name, but the many who didn't have names, or the few who were the most powerful, quickly influenced the others decision, either by death, or escape (if at all possible).
In the end, the populous who remained adapted to the name, and their children became the coming of the Hikure Clan. Jutsu were taught to the children of the clan from its existing members, and they went on to develop the clan into something more powerful.

NOTE: This will only be true with the permission of Orochimaru-sama, and the current Tsuchikage, and maybe the current Tsunade-sama too.
Before the end of the first Great Ninja War, the Hikure Clan were amongst the many clans that were currently staking claim and power in the world. It may not have been as powerful or well known as the Senju Clan or Uchiha Clan, but it did have a rather numerous population with relatively skilled ninja, along with the citizens that made the rest.
With the closing of the Great Ninja War, and the knowledge of the alliance between Senju and Uchiha, along with other relatively powerful clans, and the creation of Konohagakure no Sato, the Hikure Clan, with other numerous clans that had similar thoughts, initiated an alliance with each other, and with the funding from the Tsuchi no Daimyo, the construction of Iwagakure no Sato was established.
Because the Hikure Clan was originally a "tribe" of merchants, and had well knowledge in the field of negotiation and bartering, it enabled the increasing friction between the new Iwa and Konoha to waiver a bit, enough to allow sufficient trade between Tsuchi no Kuni and Hi no Kuni to continue without many complication.
From this time on, representatives from the branch Hikure ninja (which spawned from the children of the merchant and mercinary aspect of "Hikure") have shown up in Konoha to keep relative peace between the two hidden villages, and two countries.
After many years, many of the branch Hikure had developed a liking for Konoha; however, the entirety of Iwa started inveloping an increasing friction with Konoha that would eventually lead to war. As of this time, the second Great Ninja War had already passed, and a third was threatening to make it self apparent.
Because the branch Hikure still retained this relative "devotion" to Konoha, Iwa's majority, and the main house Hikure (wich spawned from the children of the "powerful" ninja aspect of "Hikure") started to view the branch as a possible threat because of this supposed "devotion." As the war started, and with the knowledge of reluctance that was found with the branch Hikure fighting Konoha, the main house set out of "delete" the branch.
The branch found word of this "deletion" by the hands of the main house, and realized they couldn't stay in Iwa without absolute death. Many of the branch didn't make it out because of their inferiority to the main house in skill, but because of the vast number of branch Hikure, some were able to escape the country, through vast sacrifice, to other cities that would accept them in this time of war.

NOTE: This will only be true with the permission of Orochimaru-sama, and the current Tsuchikage, and maybe the current Tsunade-sama too.
When the Hikure clan was established, the strongest few ninja had settled themselves as the council, and their relatives became apart of the newly instated main house. All other members of the clan became the branch, and where as their children would have been trained as ninja, similarly to the main house. Also, however, the children of the branch were to be taught the skills required to be successful merchants, thus those who couldn't be proper ninja, were to be the civilian of the clan, with some ninja skills. The main house thus became to law and power of the clan, where as the branch became the "servants," while being responsible for the income and security of the clan.
The council were chosen as the seven most powerful ninja who had agreed on an equal of power for the clan. Because these ninja did not want a power struggle, which would have obviously ripped the clan apart, this equal of powers was decided as the best choice of option. Because of this, the was no single one leader, and decisions for the clan were made by debate and vote of the councilmen.
Over the years of the clan's beginning, there was no specific clan jutsu or art that was taught to the younger generation. Each initial ninja had their own jutsu and forms of fighting, but no single skills were established for the clan's common. Instead, the younger generation were taught, but unless some of that generation didn't meet expected standards, then those many who couldn't meet up were then solely taught the ways of the merchant. They could have still studied on there own, but remained mostly unsuccessful.
For those who made expected standard, they would then be given more intense training, and be forced to adjust in making their own specialized fighting style. By making them create their own, or adapting to what comes most natural for them, they were able to learn far more quickly and more successfully. No single style was taught for the clan because of this, and because there were only so many qualified ninja who could instruct the new generation. Although, it didn't matter whether one person became skilled as a ninja an another did not, both would have still been taught merchanting, because the clan thought it would have been necessary.
The main house also learned in this particular way; however, because the entirety of the main house was ninja, the younger generation would have been taught much more proficiently, and would have been able to be more successful than the branch. Also, the main house was not restricted in learning the art of the merchants, so they could spend more time in preparation as ninja. There was quite some struggle in passing abilities to the younger ninja who were not your children if you were of the main house, but there were a few councilmen who were not so reluctant.
When Iwagakure no Sato was established, the Hikure Clan was offered a seat in its council. Because there was no enacted clan leader, a single member of the clan council had to be decided on who would represent the clan in the village council. A vote from the clan council was made on who would make the best choice and would seemingly make the most unbiased decision as the representative for the clan. The vote for the choice was also meant to be as unbiased as possible, and for the most part, it was acceptable.
Also, because Iwa was established as a possible imposing front against Konohagakure no Sato, to lessen the increasing friction between Tsuchi no Kuni and Hi no Kuni and to maintain a relative peace, the ninja of the branch or the Hikure clan was enacted as the representative to Konoha, by the Daimyo, the village council, and the clan council, because they were quite skilled in the art of merchanting, as they have been in the past. The ninja to be represented would have been switched every occasion, instead of keeping the same few indefinitely.
Iwa was using these branch Hikure as unknowing spies against Konoha. By acting as representatives, the Hikure were able to get relatively decent information out of Konoha, and give it to Iwa. The branch Hikure were blind to this deceit against them, and in the end, the branch Hikure were easily used and became expendable; then it was shown to be fatal for them.
The Hikure clan was established by ever-present secrets that the main house kept away from the branch. Because of these secrets, invisible friction began forming between the main house and branch house; this was how the branch became easily expendable. Because of the friction, the main house didn't quite need the branch all too much anymore, thus the deception started to form.

Name Daitsu Sota [daitsu - loss of faith | sota - formally proud]
Gender Male
Age 65
Relation Grandfather
Parents Father: Daitsu Chien Mother: Daitsu (Yamona) Mereta
Birthplace Konohagakure no Sato
Status Retired Shinobi
Background He was a rather decent shinobi of his day, and had been quite successful with many missions he and his team were on. He basically put all of his faith in Konoha, and respects it as his home village. He would have given everything for its survival.
After a while, he had decided to slow down his life, and was married to one of his fellow shinobi, Mekiye Kari. At that time she was skilled in many arts of jutsus and chakra control, and was greatly experienced in the ways of battle. Beyond that though, she was the mere captivation of beauty, even though years before she was once the most ignored because of her out of placed look.
Married to Kari, Sota and she both continued their careers as shinobi, but this time becoming sensei themselves. Sota could re-live his days as first becoming a ninja just by looking into the eyes of his team; and once again, he could go on many more missions, just him and his team. When Kari had become pregnant with their first born son, Jine, she had to resign being a sensei further most, and pay attention to her well-being instead. Sota continued with his duties as a ninja and sensei, however.
During the night Jine was to be born, Sota was on a mission with his team. They may have successfully completed their goal, but Sota lost the experience of Jine's birth. Even though he would not have necessarily been in the same room, he would have at least wanted to be in the mere presence. Sota would not make the mistake with Mereta, and made sure he had no missions on the birth night of his daughter. Unfortunately, Sota did not put much effort in the aspect of family life, so they were mostly estranged as to what he did; never the less, nothing had gone wrong.
On occasion, Sota would teach Jine the many skills that he knew, and Jine would have progressed quite well. He was still far away from mastery, but he certainly was proficient. Jine had been close to number one in his class, due to his father's training. His rank would have fluctuated occasionally, but he definitely was high. He was put on a decent team and had progress quite far, much like Sota's own team. He would have liked to have been Jine's sensei; but unfortunately, he already had a team of his own.
One day, Jine's team was sent on a mission into Tsuchi no Kuni; unknown to them, however, their mission had crossed into something much bigger. The details are still not fully know, but an ambush had erupted that proved too much for even the jounin sensei to handle. All four member did not survive the onslaught. From that day forth, Sota staked and ever present distrusted to any person from that area, no matter who they were. This soon led to a awkward difficulties much later.
Initially, Sota objected to the affiliation between his daughter, Daitsu Mereta, and Hikure Maito from Iwagakure no Sato. Obviously, Sota still retained his rage against Tsuchi no Kuni, and so he wanted no part of his family relating to them. After Mereta's disappearance with Maito to Iwa, his soul practically shattered, and caused his objections to grow even greater. The Hikure Clan may have been one of the clans with closer ties with Konohagakure, however, Sota still rejected them.
Some years later, Mereta and Maito appear their faces back in Konoha along with one other person, Hikure Byakei, mother of Hikure Maito. There seemed to be a disruption amongst the Hikure Clan in Iwa and that many branch members of the clan were being killed off. Maito and Mereta were one of the few who managed to escape, unfortunately, Hikure Keiku, Maito's father, was not able to. After some uncomfortable scenes, Maito and his mother were partially accepted into the Daitsu family, but mostly for the sake of Mereta's unborn child. Soon after, Hikure Narenji is born. Sota respects him as his grandson, but still feels uncomfortable about him being born from a Tsuchi no Kuni individual.
When Konoha was involved in the war with Iwagakure, Sota took arms against them, he was seriously injured, but not so much that he couldn't survive. Konoha also managed to survive, and everyone made a full recovery. He forced himself to resign and become a retired shinobi; as much at that pained him, he thought it would be for the best. Demura and Gien were later born from his daughter and Maito, but fortunately, after years of adjusting, the grudge Sota had for him subtly decreased over the years. He may still detest Tsuchi no Kuni, but for now he doesn't see the Hikure with him as being too harmful.
