This thread is here only to offer guidelines for the description of your OC's starting set of abilities. What you are allowed to have depends on your age, and therefore the time your OC has had to gain more experience as a shinobi.
NOTE: If you don't know what jutsu are Genin-level, Chuunin-level and so on, you GO HERE (click) (look on the left sidebar and find the jutsu info menu). It will have explanations and links to lists of all techniques in the manga/anime. If you're making your own techniques, look at those in the same rank as the one you're making, to get an idea of how weak/strong it has to be.
Bear in mind you are not forced to list this many abilities. You can have less than that, but not MORE.
Basic shinobi abilities include: basic taijutsu (normal punches, kicks, dodges and blocks), using basic shinobi weapons (kunai and shuriken, exploding tags, smoke and light bombs, or any combination of these in a normal attack), Bunshin [Clone], Henge [Transform] and Nawanuke [Escape] (as in, escaping from binding ropes). Every shinobi that graduated from the Academy has these. Warning: They do NOT include Kawarimi (Replacement) and Kai (Dispel).
Also, your character has to specialize in something. Let's take some characters, for example.
1. Rock Lee can't use ninjutsu or genjutsu. Therefore, he specializes in taijutsu. That's why ALL of his techniques are taijutsu.
2. Kakashi Hatake can use anything, but he specializes in ninjutsu. Therefore, he will be in the posession of other techniques, but most of his will be ninjutsu.
3. And a more unique case. Kankurou uses puppets. Therefore, most of his techniques are puppet control skills. If he has any others, they are few.
So, before you go through the list below, pick your character's specialization. It cannot be two domains, just one.
The permissions are as follows:
10 years or younger:
Basic shinobi abilities.
One Genin-level technique of your choice, from your character's specialization domain.
10-13 years:
Basic shinobi abilities.
Two Genin-level techniques. One of them must be from your character's specialization domain.
One Chuunin-level technique from your character's specialization domain.
14-17 years:
Basic shinobi abilities.
Five Genin-level techniques. Three of them must be from your character's specialization domain.
Three Chuunin-level techniques. Two of them must be from your character's specialization domain.
Basic knowledge of medical techniques.
18-21 years:
Basic shinobi abilities.
Seven Genin-level techniques. Five must be from from your character's specialization domain.
Four Chuunin-level techniques. Three must be from your character's specialization domain.
One Jounin-level technique from your character's specialization domain.
Advanced knowledge of medical techniques OR basic knowledge on sealing techniques. Not both.
22-29 years:
Basic shinobi abilities.
Ten Genin-level techniques, out of which seven must be from your character's specialization domain.
Five Chuunin-level techniques. Three must be from your character's specialization domain.
Three Jounin-level techniques. Two must be from your character's specialization domain.
A jutsu of choice, within your character's specialization domain, that your character has invented.
Excellent use of medical techniques OR basic use of sealing jutsu. Not both.
30-49 years:
Basic shinobi abilities.
As many Genin-level techniques as you like, but 70 percent must be from your character's specialization domain.
Ten Chuunin-level techniques, but seven must be from your character's specialization domain.
Five Jounin-level techniques. Three of them must be from your character's specialization domain.
Three jutsu of choice that your character has invented, but all three must be in your character's specialization domain.
Exceptional medical abilities OR sealing jutsu (pick one, and you may only have basic skills in the other).
50 and older:
Basic shinobi abilities.
As many Genin-level techniques as you like, but 60 percent must be from your character's specialization domain.
As many Chuunin-level techniques as you like, but 70 percent must be from your character's specialization domain.
Ten Jounin-level techniques, but seven must be from your character's specialization domain.
Five jutsu of choice that your character has invented, but three of them must be in your character's specialization domain.
Unique usage of medical abilities OR sealing techniques (pick one, and you may only have advanced skills in the other).
