Character's Full Name: Miyajima Saori.
Is the character a ninja? Yes.
Character's Appearance:
Saori stands at only 5'0"; quite a short girl even for her age. Only weighing about 88 lbs, pretty normal for that height, she doesn't look like much sport. As kindly put by some of her friends, it seems as though a stronger gust of wind could sweep her off any moment. She wears baggy almost boyish clothing in general and can usually be seen walking with her hands in her pockets if she's at ease. When she's in a stressful situation or has something important on her mind, however, that changes to a tenseness she doesn't really notice she displays. At such times, her hands will usually be by her sides, ready to grab a weapon, and she'll walk faster, paying more attention to the surroundings. It would look less like she's strolling, too, and more like she has some place to be very soon.
She wears her hair layered, varying from very short to shoulder-length. It is a plain brown color and has nothing very special about it, but when the circumstances permit it (such as, there's no difficult training or some mission ahead) she likes to stick and clip a lot of accessories into it. These can vary in color, shape and size so much that it's impossible to tell if she has any kind of pattern when hanging them in her hair. If asked, she'll confess to owning a small drawer full of them, having gathered these with a genuine collector's passion. Pretty much anything that will stick can become a hair accessory for Saori. Another way to distinguish her in a group would be by the bright yellow cloth she wears around her neck and hanging on her shoulders, in the manner of a scarf. This will be present no matter the weather forecast, where she is, or what else she's wearing. She would even idiotically choose to try and get her precious scarf if it meant endangering her life for it.
Her face is oval-shaped and framed by her strange hairstyle in such a way that it's difficult for any of her features to draw attention, especially since she has nothing that would stand out. Her complexion is the most average possible, she has no marks of any kind, and everything is nicely proportioned. Her eyes are dark brown and just as plain as the rest of her natural appearance. She doesn't seem to use make-up very much, but she does always appear to smell faintly of vanilla, and so do her clothes (the yellow cloth especially), which can sometimes be a setback while in combat or in a dangerous situation.
Brief Character History:
Saori showed up one day at the doorstep of 32-year-old shinobi Shigemitsu Aya, without any explanation. The woman just opened the door that morning, intending to go out, and found a child staring up at her with curious eyes from her crouched position near the steps in front of her home. Taking the small girl in and treating her to some tea and sweets, Aya was in for a couple of other unexpected surprises. Strangely enough, the child was aware of basic details such as her own name, her age, or her birthday. She had likes and dislikes, but no specific fears and no names for the world she lived in or the places in it. Aya never found out if Saori was sharp enough to make up those few things she did seem to know about herself on the spot and adopt them as true in order to be accepted. But other than that, the girl knew nothing about herself or her life until then, or so it appeared. She couldn't say anything about parents, siblings, a place of origin, or how she had come to wake up on Aya's porch that morning. Taking the child to the local medic nin didn't help that either.
Discussing the matter with her fiancé, Miyajima Shuichi, Aya came to the decision of keeping the child and raising her as her own. Soon after, the couple got married, and Saori obtained a family, not that she seemed to be very preoccupied with such matters. Anything seemed to work for her. She remained as odd as she had been, even after being enrolled in the academy soon after, to receive shinobi training. The smallest things appeared to fascinate her as though they were outlandish and ripped from a fairy tale: bugs, trash on the side of the road, people with foreign accents, shiny objects, the stars, the way different people ate their food, you name it. Everything was a curious matter to her. Of course, in time, her interest in such things dulled and receded into quite the contrary. Growing up, spending time in society, the strange girl turned over the years into an average teenager, focused mostly on herself. Only a few quirks remained, such as how the yellow scarf she's so attached to came with her; it was folded carefully in one of her pockets when she was found.
In terms of abilities, her adoptive parents kept a close watch on her, expecting her to maybe show some odd affinity for certain techniques, or maybe the signs of a kekkei genkai. But there was nothing of the sort. She wasn't even particularly smart, agile or strong. The fleeting nature of her interest caused her to neglect training enough that she wasn't considered a great student, although she was quite hard-working when she felt like it, which kept her from being a failure, as well. Eventually, in time, Shuichi and Aya grew used to the thought that what they had ended up with was a normal daughter. They weren't out of the norm either, so in a way they were happier with that – their peace wasn't going to be disturbed. Life went on as always, Saori made a few friends, got in a couple of fights, and overall just retained the naturally positive outlook she had come with from the start.
Character's Personality:
Friendly, more outgoing than shy, always optimistic and a bit of an airhead or dreamer. Those are the main traits defining Saori. She finds it easy to talk to new people and pays nearly no attention to how they react, almost as though she's unable to read whether they like her or not. Although that's definitely not true. She can interpret people's reactions to her as much as anyone else. She just prefers to be nice and bordering on informal with everyone, since that seems to be the way she manages to form bonds with others best. Saori is that little light-hearted annoyance who's ready to point out the bright side in even the most somber tragedy in your life. If you tell her she can do that because she's never been through hardship, she'll shrug and agree with you, but tell you that since that's how things are, she doesn't have much choice but to be herself. Due to that, a lot of people can't say they have anything against her; most would say she's likable, just impossible to make a close friend out of. Maybe that's why she doesn't have any of those, although she doesn't seem like she cares or even realizes the difference between an acquaintance and a friend.
Saori has no goals in the normal sense of the word for an adult or a maturing person. In that respect, her mentality is still a child's. She doesn't want power or money or other things grown-ups worry about, and she's not busy checking out boys or gossiping about other people with her friends like a regular teenage girl. She'll often point out things that don't interest anyone normal, in particular, like a falling leaf with an interesting color, or a couple of birds building their nest. In truth, she seems more concerned with looking around than interacting with people, although she talks a lot and shares pretty much everything. That is, both what she sees and what she has. If asked for something she doesn't really need, she's the kind of person who will give it away without a second thought.
When she's bored, which can be a frequent occurrence, Saori likes to play little games. Usually, that's by herself, but if she's in a group it's not excluded for her to try out her moderate leadership abilities at organizing a fun activity for everyone. At one point, her favorite playmate was an imaginary boy whom she named Kiyoshi. Her parents were a little worried about that, but by asking her various questions, it turned out that Saori never thought of Kiyoshi as actually being real. She classed him as just a way for her to make things more interesting, which pretty much made her a normal child who was just a lot more open and shameless about things than most. In her relationships with other people, especially those her age, she can be a bit contradictory. Sometimes she ignores anything in the same way she disregards being liked or not, while other times she seems to be carefully observing what kind of spirit those around her are in.

Role-Play Example: Just to mention this, Heart is Rina/Oro's character. This was a blog entry, actually, not a sample of live role-play. She has an entry of her own, recounting the same thing from her character's perspective, and we planned both of these together.
Click, click.
The agony of the lighter under the action of Heart's fingers. The only sound that broke the silence between the two men. One that beamed with natural carelessness, and one that hid himself behind fabricated looks. Each, in his own way, had built multiple barriers to block probing and keep others away. Mana thought that was why they had understood each other best, even when there were others they had known for a longer while.
They weren't the same, though. No. Heart had friends, was surrounded by people. He was a beacon that drew emotions and affection to himself, and who offered them in turn. Mana was just emotionally deficient. Empty, if you like. An observer and nothing more. He always did and always would do just what he did now – he would study, stay on the side and note every little detail, without getting involved. Everything made him think, but nothing woke feeling up in his dead heart. Something was broken inside him, perhaps, and maybe he missed out. But for whatever possible perspectives he had lost when compared to other people, he had also gained new ones that they didn't have.
Like everything comes with a price, the price also comes with everything.
"Do you remember the small pendant I showed you once?"
Of course, Mana did remember. It was his best ability to do so, since all he did was register, and never use anything. Once you used something, it was common to get rid of it, but since he only stored everything, he had the perfect memory of all that he had been given, every little detail. He recalled that Heart had mentioned that to be the symbol of his nobility, back where he had come from. Wherever that was. He had never mentioned his home in exact terms, not even to Mana. Perhaps others knew, but the younger, black-haired, pale-faced and make-up covered vampire didn't. But he was astute enough to realize, even with how alcohol-imbibed Heart had been when he showed him the small silvery necklace, that his mumblings meant a lot more than he had been letting on. Mana understood that object was dear to Heart, although he himself would be unable to hold anything dear.
He nodded, needing no explanations, no reminders. Heart could proceed.
"I gave it away."
Of course, Heart was drunk again. He was smoking absently, and staring out in space. If Mana would have looked up at the other man's face, across the table, he knew he would have seen the lost look in his eyes as they gazed away into nothingness. But he didn’t need such confirmation, so he didn't look. He just stared down at the table, where his own elbows lay pressed against the wood, with his hands crossed in a prayer-like stance, fingers intertwined. The black gloves, and the sleeves of his coat covered every single bit of skin perfectly, and the candlelight refracted off the glossy, leathery curves in faint, darkened tones. A glass of blood rested bare inches away, untouched, at the side of two bottles of blood-wine that Heart had already emptied by himself. Mana could just watch that as he listened and it was enough.
"To a woman."
He didn't react to that either. He didn't even ask who. If Heart were going to share that, he would do so without any nudge, at that point. He knew, and he always had known, that Mana was there to listen. Even if he didn't care a single bit. He felt nothing at all. Just curiosity, at most.
A story was unfolding, and he'd be there to memorize it.
